Portuguese

The João Miguel dos Santos Simões Thematic Network on the Study of Tiles and Ceramics (ARTIS-IHA/FLUL) is a research group specialized on the study of Portuguese Azulejo (tiles). Its anchor project is the Az Infinitum - Azulejo Indexation and Reference System, a tool developed with the National Museu of Azulejo and the enterprise Sistemas do Futuro.

This tool enables the organization of information about Azulejo, making it accessible to researchers as well as to the general audience, therefore contributing not only to advanced study and research, but also to the dissemination of this type of heritage and, as a consequence, to its preservation. Az Infinitum supports iconographic searches, using an Iconclass version translated to Portuguese.

This group, with researchers from Azulejo Network and National Museu of Azulejo, is preparing a comprehensive Portuguese version of ICONLASS. For more information or to express interest in getting involved please contact Maria do Rosário Salema de Carvalho (rscarvalho@fl.ul.pt).
