ANNOT The motto opposes the eyes of Argus and of a mole (talpa). With the first (i.e. sharp vision) one should look at a friend's virtues, with the latter at his vices, i.e. "turn a blind eye". The mole, however, may also be a weasel holding a squill, a combination that is an attribute of "Difesa contra nimici..." (Ripa's Iconologia)
