TEXT_EXPL_XML <p>Observe I pray you, how the greedy Flame<lb/>
                                The Fewell, on an Altar doth consume.<lb/>
                                How it destroyeth that which feedes the same,<lb/>
                                And how the Nourisher away doth fume.<lb/>
                                For, so it fares with Parents that uphold<lb/>
                                Their thriftlesse Children in unlawfull Pleasures:<lb/>
                                With Cares, it weares them out, ere they are old;<lb/>
                                And ere their Lives consume, consumes their Treasures.<lb/>
                                So fares it with such Wantons as doe feede<lb/>
                                Vnchast Desires; for, ev'ry day they grow<lb/>
                                Vntill their Longings, their Supplies exceede,<lb/>
                                And, quite devoure those men that fed them so.<lb/>
                                So fares it with all those that spend their Youth<lb/>
                                In lab'ring to enrich ungratefull Men,<lb/>
                                Who, growing Great, and Wealthy, by their Truth,<lb/>
                                Returne them Smoke and Ashes backe agen.<lb/>
                                So fares it with good States-men, who to keepe<lb/>
                                A thankelesse Common-wealth in happy Peace,<lb/>
                                Deprive their Mindes of Rest, their Eyes of Sleepe,<lb/>
                                And, waste themselves, that others may encrease.<lb/>
                                And, so it fares with Men that passe away<lb/>
                                Their time in Studies, (and their Healths impaire)<lb/>
                                That helps to other men become they may,<lb/>
                                And, their defective Knowledges, repaire.<lb/>
                                But, let my Flesh, my Time, and my Estate,<lb/>
                                Be so consum'd; so spent; so wasted bee,<lb/>
                                That they may nourish Grace, and perfit that<lb/>
                                For which all these were first bestowd'd on me:<lb/>
                                So when I quite am vanish'd out of seeing,<lb/>
                                I shall enjoy my Now-concealed-Being.<lb/>
