                                In just endurances? or bid them shunne<lb/>
                                Good Actions, 'cause they suffer now and then,<lb/>
                                For Doing well, as if some Ill were done?<lb/>
                                Ere Plates extended are, they must abide<lb/>
                                A thousand hamm'rings; And, then that which fill'd<lb/>
                                So little roome, it scarce your Hand could hide,<lb/>
                                Will serve a goodly Monument to gild.<lb/>
                                So, he that hopes to winne an honest Name,<lb/>
                                Must many blowes of Fortune undergoe,<lb/>
                                And hazard, oft, the blast of Evill Fame,<lb/>
                                Before a Good-Report her Trumpe will blow.<lb/>
                                A thousand Worthies had unworthily<lb/>
                                Been raked up in Ashes and in Clay,<lb/>
                                Vnknowne and bury'd in Obscurity,<lb/>
                                If Malice had not fil'd their Rust away.<lb/>
                                But, lo; their lasting prayses now are spread,<lb/>
                                And rais'd, by Adverse-Chance, to such a height,<lb/>
                                That they most glorious are, now they are dead;<lb/>
                                And live in Injuries, and Deaths, despight.<lb/>
                                For, by Afflictions, man refined growes,<lb/>
                                And, (as the Gold prepared in the Fire)<lb/>
                                Receiveth such a Forme by wrongs and blowes,<lb/>
                                That hee becomes the Iewell we desire.<lb/>
                                To thee therefore, Oh God! My Prayers are<lb/>
                                Not to be freed from Griefes and Troubles quite:<lb/>
                                But, that they may be such as I can beare;<lb/>
                                And, serve to make me precious in thy Sight.<lb/>
                                This please me shall, though all my Life time, I<lb/>
                                Betweene thine Anvill and the Hammer, lie.<lb/>
