TEXT_EXPL_XML <p>A Serpent rais'd above the Letter Tau,<lb/>
                                Aspiring to a Crowne, is figur'd here:<lb/>
                                From whence, a Christian-Morall we may draw,<lb/>
                                Which worth our good-regarding will appeare.<lb/>
                                For, by those Characters, in briefe, I see<lb/>
                                Which Way, we must to Happinesse ascend;<lb/>
                                Then, by what Meanes, that Path must clymed bee;<lb/>
                                And, what Reward, shall thereupon attend.<lb/>
                                The Crosse, doth shew, that Suffring is the Way;<lb/>
                                The Serpent, seemes to teach me, that, if I<lb/>
                                Will overcome, I must not then, assay<lb/>
                                To force it; but, my selfe thereto applye.<lb/>
                                For, by embracing what we shall not shunne,<lb/>
                                We winde about the Crosse, till wee arise<lb/>
                                Above the same; and, then, what Prize is wonne,<lb/>
                                The Crowne, which overtops it, signifies.<lb/>
                                Let me, O God, obtaine from thee the Grace,<lb/>
                                To be partaker of thy Blessed Passion;<lb/>
                                Let me, with Willingnesse, thy Crosse imbrace,<lb/>
                                And, share the Comforts of thy Exaltation.<lb/>
                                To beare that Part, whereto I doomed am,<lb/>
                                My Heart, with Strength, and Courage, Lord, inspire:<lb/>
                                Then, Crucifie my Flesh upon the same,<lb/>
                                As much as my Corruption shall require.<lb/>
                                And, when by thy Assistance, I am rear'd<lb/>
                                Above that Burthen, which lyes yet upon me;<lb/>
                                And, over all, which (justly may be fear'd)<lb/>
                                Shall, during Life-time, be inflicted on me;<lb/>
                                Among those Blessed-Soules, let me be found,<lb/>
                                Which, with eternall Glory, shall be Crown'd.<lb/>
