TEXT_EXPL_XML <p>To Musicke, and the Muses, many beare<lb/>
                                Much hatred; and, to whatsoever ends<lb/>
                                Their Soule-delighting-Raptures tuned are,<lb/>
                                Such peevish dispositions, it offends.<lb/>
                                Some others, in a Morall way, affect<lb/>
                                Their pleasing Straines (or, for a sensuall use)<lb/>
                                But, in Gods Worship, they the same suspect;<lb/>
                                (Or, taxe it rather) as a great abuse.<lb/>
                                The First of these, are full of Melancholy ;<lb/>
                                And, Pitty need, or Comfort, more then blame;<lb/>
                                And, soone, may fall into some dangerous folly,<lb/>
                                Vnlesse they labour, to prevent the same.<lb/>
                                The Last, are giddie-things, that have befool'd<lb/>
                                Their Iudgements, with beguiling-Fantasies,<lb/>
                                Which (if they be not, by discretion, school'd)<lb/>
                                Will plunge them into greater Vanities.<lb/>
                                For, Musicke, is the Handmaid of the Lord,<lb/>
                                And, for his Worship, was at first ordayned:<lb/>
                                Yea, therewithall she fitly doth accord;<lb/>
                                And, where Devotion thriveth, is reteyned.<lb/>
                                Shee, by a nat'rall power, doth helpe to raise,<lb/>
                                The mind to God, when joyfull Notes are sounded:<lb/>
                                And, Passions fierce Distemperatures, alaies;<lb/>
                                When, by grave Tones, the Mellody is bounded.<lb/>
                                It, also may in Mysticke-sense, imply<lb/>
                                What Musicke, in our-selves, ought still to be;<lb/>
                                And, that our jarring-lives to certifie,<lb/>
                                Wee should in Voice, in Hand, and Heart, agree:<lb/>
                                And, sing out, Faiths new-songs, with full concent,<lb/>
                                Vnto the Lawes, ten-stringed Instrument.<lb/>
