<p>This moderne Emblem, is a mute expressing<lb/> Of Gods great Mercies, in a Moderne-blessing ;<lb/> And, gives me, now, just cause to sing his praise,<lb/> For granting me, my being, in these dayes.<lb/> The much-desired Messages of Heav'n,<lb/> For which, our Fathers would their lives have giv'n,<lb/> And (in Groves, Caves, and Mountaines, once a yeare)<lb/> Were glad, with hazard of their goods, to heare;<lb/> Or, in lesse bloudy times, at their owne homes,<lb/> To heare, in private, and obscured roomes.<lb/> Lo; those, those Ioyfull-tydings, we doe live<lb/> Divulg'd, in every Village, to perceive;<lb/> And, that, the sounds of Gladnesse, eccho may,<lb/> Through all our goodly Temples, ev'ry day.<lb/> This was ( Oh God ) thy doing; unto thee,<lb/> Ascrib'd, for ever, let all Prayses bee.<lb/> Prolong this Mercie, and, vouchsafe the fruit,<lb/> May to thy Labour, on this Vine-yard, suit:<lb/> Lest, for our fruitlesnesse, thy Light of grace,<lb/> Thou, from our Golden candlesticke, displace.<lb/> We doe, me thinkes, already, Lord, beginne<lb/> To wantonize, and let that loathing in,<lb/> Which makes thy Manna tastlesse; And, I feare,<lb/> That, of those Christians, who, more often heare,<lb/> Then practise, what they know, we have too many:<lb/> And, I suspect my selfe, as much as any.<lb/> Oh! mend me so, that, by amending mee,<lb/> Amends in others, may increased be:<lb/> And, let all Graces, which thou hast bestow'd,<lb/> Returne thee honour, from whom, first, they flow'd.<lb/> </p>
