TEXT_EXPL_XML <p>Me thinkes, that Fate, which God weighs forth to all,<lb/>
                                I, by the Figure of this Even-Skale,<lb/>
                                May partly show; and, let my Reader, see<lb/>
                                The state, of an Immutable-decree ;<lb/>
                                And, how it differs, from those Destinies,<lb/>
                                Which carnall understandings, doe devise.<lb/>
                                For, this implies, that ev'ry thing, to-come,<lb/>
                                Was, by a steady, and, by equall doome,<lb/>
                                Weigh'd out, by Providence ; and, that, by Grace,<lb/>
                                Each thing, each person, ev'ry time, and place,<lb/>
                                Had thereunto, a powre, and portion given,<lb/>
                                So proper to their nature (and, so even<lb/>
                                To that just measure, which, aright became<lb/>
                                The Workings, and, the being, of the same)<lb/>
                                As, best might helpe the furthering of that end,<lb/>
                                Which, God's eternall wisedome, doth intend.<lb/>
                                And, though, I dare not be so bold, as they,<lb/>
                                Who, of God's Closer, seeme to keep the Key ;<lb/>
                                (And, things, for absolute Decrees, declare,<lb/>
                                Which, either false, or, but Contingents are)<lb/>
                                Yet, in his Will-reveal'd, my Reason, sees<lb/>
                                Thus much, of his Immutable-decrees :<lb/>
                                That, him, a Doome-eternall, reprobateth,<lb/>
                                Who scorneth Mercie ; or, Instruction hateth,<lb/>
                                Without Repenting : And, that, whensoever,<lb/>
                                A Sinner, true amendment, shall indeavour;<lb/>
                                Bewaile his Wickednesse, and, call for grace ;<lb/>
                                There shall be, for Compassion, time, and place.<lb/>
                                And, this, I hold, a branch of that Decree,<lb/>
                                Which, Men may say, shall never changed be.
