                                What, thy estate, may, peradventure, be.<lb/>
                                She, wants her freedome ; so, perhaps, dost thou,<lb/>
                                Some freedomes lacke, which, are desired, now;<lb/>
                                And, though, thy Body be not so confin'd;<lb/>
                                Art straitned, from some liberty of Minde.<lb/>
                                The Bird in thrall, the more contented lyes,<lb/>
                                Because, the Hawke, so neere her, she espyes;<lb/>
                                And, though, the Cage were open, more would feare,<lb/>
                                To venture out, then to continue there:<lb/>
                                So, if thou couldst perceive, what Birds of prey,<lb/>
                                Are hov'ring round about thee, every day,<lb/>
                                To seize thy Soule (when she abroad shall goe,<lb/>
                                To take the Freedome, she desireth so)<lb/>
                                Thou, farre more fearefull, wouldst of them, become,<lb/>
                                Then thou art, now, of what thou flyest from.<lb/>
                                Not Precepts, but Experience, thus hath taught me;<lb/>
                                Which, to such resolutions, now have brought me,<lb/>
                                That, whatsoever mischiefes others doe me,<lb/>
                                I make them yield some true Contentments to me;<lb/>
                                And, seldome struggle from them, till I see,<lb/>
                                That, smother-fortunes will securer be.<lb/>
                                What spight soere my Foes, to me, can doe,<lb/>
                                I laugh thereat, within an houre or two:<lb/>
                                For, though the World, and I, at first, believe,<lb/>
                                My Suffrings, give me cause enough to grieve;<lb/>
                                Yet, afterward, I finde (the more to glad me)<lb/>
                                That, better Fortunes, might farre worse have made me.<lb/>
                                By some young Devills, though, I scratched am,<lb/>
                                Yet, I am hopefull, I shall scape their Dam.
