<p>When, many, for the chiefest Garland runne,<lb/> That height of Glory, can befall but one;<lb/> Yet, Wreaths there are, for ev'ry man prepar'd,<lb/> According as he meriteth reward :<lb/> And, though the Worke deserveth little meed,<lb/> Grace, prints a worth, on ev'ry willing-deed,<lb/> Which formes it currant; and, doth gratious make<lb/> Man's weake endeavors, for God 's promise sake.<lb/> All seeke the selfe-same prize ; but, doe not seeke,<lb/> With mindes, and, with endeavours, all alike.<lb/> Most, wish the Wreath ; but, few those things will doe,<lb/> That may be helpfull to attaine thereto:<lb/> And, some (that will be doing ) more delight<lb/> In doing their owne will, then doing right.<lb/> One, thinkes by airie titles, to atchieve<lb/> The Palme he seekes; Another, doth believe<lb/> Tis gain'd, by giving to his Appetite,<lb/> The fulnesse of his Bodies vaine delight:<lb/> To reach their aime, some others nourish hopes,<lb/> By scrambling up unto the dunghill-tops<lb/> Of temp'rall Riches : and, of all the wayes,<lb/> Most thinke this course deserves the greatest praise.<lb/> But, this our Emblem's Motto, doth implie,<lb/> That, nothing Man possesseth outwardly<lb/> Can purchase him the Crowne, that should be sought,<lb/> Like rightly-doing, what is rightly-taught.<lb/> And, that God never passed any doome,<lb/> To barre their blisse, who righteous would become:<lb/> For, ev'n to Cain he said (of sinne detected)<lb/> If well thou dost, thou shalt be well respected.<lb/> </p>
