<p>When Emblems, of too many parts consist,<lb/> Their Author was no choice Emblematist :<lb/> But, is like those, that wast whole howres, to tell<lb/> What, in three minutes, might be said as well.<lb/> Yet, when each member is interpreted,<lb/> Out of these vulgar Figures, you may read<lb/> A Morall, (altogether) not unfit<lb/> To be remembred, ev'n, by men of wit.<lb/> And, if the Kernell proove to be of worth,<lb/> No matter from what shell we drew it forth.<lb/> The Square whereon the Globe is placed, here,<lb/> Must Vertue be; That Globe upon the Square,<lb/> Must meane the World ; The Figure, in the Round,<lb/> (Which in appearance doth her Trumpet sound)<lb/> Was made for Fame ; The Booke she beares, may show,<lb/> What Breath it is, which makes her Trumpet blow:<lb/> The Wreath, inclosing all, was to intend<lb/> A glorious Praise, that never shall have end:<lb/> And, these, in one-summ'd up, doe seeme to say;<lb/> That, (if men study in a vertuous-way )<lb/> The Trumpet of a never-ceasing Fame,<lb/> Shall through the world proclaime their praisefull Name.<lb/> Now Reader, if large Fame, be thy ambition,<lb/> This Emblem doth informe, on what condition<lb/> She may be gain'd. But, (herein, me beleeve)<lb/> Thy studie for meere-praise, will thee deceive:<lb/> And, if thy Vertues, be, but onely, those<lb/> For which the vulgar Fame, her Trumpet blowes,<lb/> Thy Fame's a blast; Thy Vertues, Vices be;<lb/> Thy Studie's vaine; and, shame will follow thee.<lb/> </p>
