<p>That, which wee call the Sea-horse, is a Creature,<lb/> Whereby the Priests of Aegypt, wonted were,<lb/> To typify an Ill-disposed nature ;<lb/> And, such, as to their Parents, cruell are:<lb/> Because, this Monster (as their Authors write)<lb/> When strong he growes, becommeth so ingrate,<lb/> That he pursues, with violent despight,<lb/> His old and weakly Sire, which him begate.<lb/> Contrariwise, the Storke, they figur'd, then,<lb/> When they occasion had, to signifie<lb/> The good condition, of those honest men,<lb/> Who pleasure take, in workes of Piety :<lb/> Because, the Storkes, not onely harmed none,<lb/> But, holpe their aged Parents in their need;<lb/> And, those offensive Serpents, prey'd upon,<lb/> Which, in the Fennes of Aegypt, yearely, breed.<lb/> The Royall-Crowne, therefore, supporting thus<lb/> That pious Fowle, and overtopping, here,<lb/> The wicked, and the fierce Hyppotamus,<lb/> May serve to comfort, and to keep in feare.<lb/> For, it informes, that, if we pious grow,<lb/> And love our Princes (who those Parents bee,<lb/> To whom all Subjects, filiall duties owe)<lb/> The blessings of their Favours, we shall see.<lb/> It shewes us, also, that, if we affect<lb/> Vnrighteous-wayes, no Wit, or Strength of our,<lb/> Nor any Vncouth-place, shall us protect<lb/> From being reached, by the Sov'raigne-power.<lb/> The way of Iustice, therefore, learne thou still,<lb/> For love of Goodnesse, or for feare of Ill.<lb/> </p>
