<p>The Bounder-Stones, held sacred, heretofore,<lb/> Some did so superstitiously adore,<lb/> As, that they did not onely rev'rence doe them,<lb/> But, have ascrib'd a kinde of God-head, to them:<lb/> For, Terminus had many a Sacrifize,<lb/> As well as other senslesse Deities.<lb/> I am not so prophane, as to desire<lb/> Such Ethnick zeale should set our hearts on fire:<lb/> But, wish I could, Men better did regard<lb/> Those Bounders, which Antiquity hath rear'd;<lb/> And, that, they would not, with so much delight,<lb/> There, make incroachments, where they have no right.<lb/> That, ev'ry man might keep his owne Possessions,<lb/> Our Fathers, us'd in reverent Processions<lb/> (With zealous prayers, and with praisefull cheere)<lb/> To walke their Parish-limits, once a yeare:<lb/> And, well knowne Markes (which sacrilegious Hands<lb/> Now cut or breake) so bord'red out their Lands,<lb/> That, ev'ry one distinctly knew his owne;<lb/> And, many brawles, now rife, were then unknowne.<lb/> But, since neglected, sacred Bounders were,<lb/> Most men Incroachers, and Intruders are:<lb/> They grieve each other, and their Dues they steale,<lb/> From Prince, from Parent, and from Common-weale.<lb/> Nay, more; these bold Vsurpers are so rude,<lb/> That, they, on Christ's Inheritance intrude.<lb/> But, that will be aveng'd; and (on his right )<lb/> Though such incroach, he will not lose it quite:<lb/> For, hee's that Bounder, and that Corner-stone,<lb/> Who all confines, and is confin'd, of none.<lb/> </p>
