<p>The Horne-of-plenty, which Wealth signifies,<lb/> The Hand-in-hand, which Plighted faith implies,<lb/> (Together being painted) seeme to teach,<lb/> That, such as will be honest, shall be rich.<lb/> If this be so, why then for Lucre-sake,<lb/> Doe many breake the Promises they make?<lb/> Why doe they cheat and couzen, lye, and sweare?<lb/> Why practise they all Villanies that are?<lb/> To compasse Wealth ? And, how doe such as they<lb/> Inlarge their ill-got Portions, ev'ry day?<lb/> Or, whence proceedes it, that sometimes we see<lb/> Those men grow poore, who faithfull seeme to bee?<lb/> Thus, oft it proves; and, therefore, Falshood can,<lb/> In likelihood, much more inrich a man,<lb/> Then blamelesse Faith ; and, then, the Motto here<lb/> Improper to this Emblem, doth appeare.<lb/> But, well enough they sute; and, all is true,<lb/> Which these things (being thus united) shew.<lb/> Should it be then concluded, that all those,<lb/> Who poore and honest seeme, have made but showes<lb/> Of reall Faith ? And, therfore, plagu'd have bin<lb/> With publicke lashes, for their private sin?<lb/> Indeed, sometime it hath succeeded so:<lb/> But, know you should, that, most who richest grow,<lb/> In Outward wealth, are very poore in that,<lb/> Which brings true Plentie, and a blest Estate:<lb/> And, that, Good men, though poore they seeme to bee,<lb/> Have Riches, which the Worldling cannot see.<lb/> Now He, who findes himselfe endow'd with such,<lb/> (Whate're wee thinke him) is exceeding rich.<lb/> </p>
