TEXT_EXPL_XML <p>When thou beholdest on this Burying-stone,<lb/>
                                The melancholly Night-bird, sitting on<lb/>
                                The fleshlesse ruines of a rotten-Skull,<lb/>
                                (Whose Face, perhaps, hath been more beautifull,<lb/>
                                Then thine is now) take up a serious thought;<lb/>
                                And, doe as thou art by the Motto taught.<lb/>
                                Remember Death : and minde, I thee beseech,<lb/>
                                How soone, these Fowles may at thy window screech;<lb/>
                                Or, call thee (as the common people deeme)<lb/>
                                To dwell in Graves, and Sepulchers, by them,<lb/>
                                Where nothing else, but Bats, and Owles, appeare;<lb/>
                                Or, Goblins, form'd by Fancies, and, by Feare.<lb/>
                                If thou shalt be advis'd, to meditate<lb/>
                                Thy latter end, before it be too late,<lb/>
                                (And, whil'st thy friends, thy strength, and wits may bee<lb/>
                                In likely case, to help and comfort thee)<lb/>
                                There may be courses taken, to divert<lb/>
                                Those Frights, which, else, would terrifie thy heart,<lb/>
                                When Death drawes neare; and helpe thee plucke away<lb/>
                                That Sting, of his, which would thy Soule dis nay.<lb/>
                                But, if thou madly ramble onward, still,<lb/>
                                Till thou art sinking downe that darkesome hill,<lb/>
                                Which borders on the Grave (and dost beginne<lb/>
                                To see the Shades of Terrour, and of Sinne<lb/>
                                To fly acrosse thy Conscience ) 'twill be hard<lb/>
                                To learne this Lesson ; or, to be prepar'd<lb/>
                                For that sad parting; which, will forced bee,<lb/>
                                Betweene his much beloved World, and thee.<lb/>
                                Consider this, therefore, while Time thou hast,<lb/>
                                And, put not off this Bus'nesse, till the last.<lb/>
