<p>Observe the Sheafe of Arrowes, figur'd here;<lb/> And, how the pow'r, and fury, of the Beare<lb/> (Though hee attempt it) no device can finde<lb/> To breake one slender-shaft, while they are joyn'd :<lb/> Whereas, were they divided, strength but small,<lb/> Like rotten Kexes, would soone breake them all.<lb/> This Emblem, therefore, fitly doth imply<lb/> That Safeguard, which is found in Vnity ;<lb/> And, shewes, that, when Dis-union is begunne,<lb/> It breedeth dangers, where before were none.<lb/> The Psalmist, numerous Off-springs, doth compare<lb/> To Quivers, that with Shafts replenish'd are.<lb/> When Vnity hath knit them in her bands,<lb/> They prove like Arrowes in a Gyants hands.<lb/> And, though, for these, their Foes in wayt have layd,<lb/> They shall not be supriz'd, nor made afrayd.<lb/> Consider this, yee Children of one Sire,<lb/> 'Twixt whom, is kindled some contentious fire,<lb/> And, reconciled be, lest thou, at length,<lb/> Consume away the marrow of your strength ;<lb/> Or, by dividing, of your joyned-pow'r,<lb/> Make way for those, who studie to devoure.<lb/> Yea, let us all consider, as we ought,<lb/> What Lesson, by this Emblem, we are taught.<lb/> For, wee are Brethren all; and (by a Bloud<lb/> More precious, then our nat'rall Brother-hood )<lb/> Not knit, alone, but, mingled, as it were,<lb/> Into a League ; which is, by much, more deare,<lb/> And, much more dangerous, to be undone,<lb/> Then all the Bands, that can be thought upon.<lb/> </p>
