<p>The World is much for Shewes, and few there are<lb/> So diligent to bee, as to appeare ;<lb/> Although a little travaile more, would make them<lb/> Those men, for which, the lookers on mistake them.<lb/> Some, have so toyled, and consum'd so much,<lb/> To get a false repute of being Rich,<lb/> That, they have spent farre more, than would have bought,<lb/> The substance of the shadow, they have sought;<lb/> And, caused those, who deem'd them rich before,<lb/> To know them, to bee miserably poore.<lb/> Some others, would so faine be counted Wise,<lb/> That, they consume in Curiosities,<lb/> In Sophistries, and superficiall showes,<lb/> More pretious Time, than would have made them those,<lb/> They long to seeme, (had halfe that meanes been spent,<lb/> In seeking Wisdome, with a pure intent)<lb/> Whereas, the glorioust purchases of such,<lb/> (Though by their Peeres they seeme applauded much)<lb/> Are still so vaine, that little they possesse,<lb/> But fruitlesse leaves, of learned foolishnesse :<lb/> Yea, by affecting more than is their due,<lb/> They lose ev'n both the substance, and the shew ;<lb/> And, so, instead of honours Crowne, have worne<lb/> The Coxcombes, of a well-deserved scorne.<lb/> But, of all Fooleries, the grossest Folly<lb/> Is theirs, who weare those garbes of seeming-holy,<lb/> Which paine them sore, yet make them still appeare,<lb/> To God and Men, as wicked as they are.<lb/> Be, therefore, what, to be, thou hast profest;<lb/> But, bee not of this last, of all the rest.<lb/> </p>
