<p>When, in this Emblem, here, you have espide,<lb/> The shape of a triangled Pyramide,<lb/> And, have observed well, those mightie Rockes,<lb/> Whose firme foundation bides the dreadfull shockes<lb/> Of angry Neptune ; you may thereby see,<lb/> How firmly setled, Vertues reall bee.<lb/> For, as the raging Seas, although they roare,<lb/> Can make no breach upon the Rockie shore;<lb/> And, as a true triangled Pyramide,<lb/> Stands fast, and shewes alike, on ev'ry side:<lb/> So, howsoever Fortune, turnes or winds,<lb/> Those men, which are indow'd with vertuous minds,<lb/> It is impossible, to drive them from<lb/> Those Formes, or Stations, which those minds become.<lb/> And, as the raging Sea, with foming threats,<lb/> Against the Rockie-shore, but vainely beats;<lb/> So, Envie shall in vaine, loud blustrings make,<lb/> When vertuous resolutions they would shake.<lb/> For, Vertue, which receives an overthrow,<lb/> Was Vertue, not indeed, but in the show.<lb/> So farre am I, oh Lord! from laying claime<lb/> To have this Vertue, that, I doe but ayme<lb/> At such perfection ; and, can come no nigher<lb/> As yet, than to obtaine it in desire.<lb/> But, fixe thou so, this weake desire of mine,<lb/> Vpon the Vertues of thy Rocke divine,<lb/> That I, and that invaluable Stone,<lb/> May bee incorporated into One :<lb/> And, then, it will bee neither shame, nor pride,<lb/> To say, my Vertues, will unmov'd abide.<lb/> </p>
