<p>There are a sort of people so severe,<lb/> That, foolish, and injurious too, they are;<lb/> And, if the world were to bee rul'd by these,<lb/> Nor Soule, nor Bodie, ever should have ease.<lb/> The Sixe dayes, (as their wisdomes understand)<lb/> Are to bee spent in Labour, by command,<lb/> With such a strictnesse, that they quite condemne<lb/> All Recreations which are us'd in them.<lb/> That, which is call'd the Sabbath, they confine<lb/> To Prayers, and all Offices-divine,<lb/> So wholly, that a little Recreation,<lb/> That Day, is made a marke of Reprobation :<lb/> And, (by this meanes) the reason is to seeke,<lb/> When their poore Servants labour all the weeke,<lb/> (Of which, they'l bate them nothing) how it tyes<lb/> Them, to observe the sixe-fold Sacrifice<lb/> By some injoyn'd; and gives them such due Rest,<lb/> As God allowed, both to Man and Beast.<lb/> Hee, gave the Woods, the Fields, and Meddowes, here,<lb/> A time to rest, as well as times to beare.<lb/> The Forrest-Beasts, and Heards, have howres for play,<lb/> As well as time to graze, and hunt their prey:<lb/> And, ev'ry Bird some leasure hath to sing,<lb/> Or, in the Aire, to sport it on her wing.<lb/> And, sure, to him, for whom all these were made,<lb/> Lesse kindnesse was not meant, then these have had.<lb/> The Flesh will faint, if pleasure none it knowes;<lb/> The Man growes madd, that alway muzing goes.<lb/> The Wisest men, will sometimes merry bee:<lb/> And, this is that, this Emblem teacheth me.<lb/> </p>
