TEXT_EXPL_XML <p>Although wee know not a more patient creature,<lb/>
                                Than is the Lambe, (or, of lesse harmfull nature)<lb/>
                                Yet, as this Emblem shewes, when childish wrong,<lb/>
                                Hath troubled, and provok'd him overlong,<lb/>
                                Hee growes enrag'd; and makes the wanton Boyes,<lb/>
                                Bee glad to leave their sports, and run their wayes.<lb/>
                                Thus have I seene it with some Children fare,<lb/>
                                Who, when their Parents too indulgent were,<lb/>
                                Have urg'd them, till their Doting grew to Rage,<lb/>
                                And shot them wholly from their Heritage.<lb/>
                                Thus, many times, a foolish man doth lose<lb/>
                                His faithfull Friends, and justly makes them foes.<lb/>
                                Thus, froward Husbands ; and, thus, peevish Wives,<lb/>
                                Doe foole away the comfort of their lives;<lb/>
                                And, by abusing of a patient-Mate,<lb/>
                                Turne dearest Love, into the deadliest Hate :<lb/>
                                For, any wrong may better bee excused,<lb/>
                                Than, Kindnesse, long and wilfully abused.<lb/>
                                Put, as an injur'd Lambe, provoked, thus,<lb/>
                                Well typifies how much it moveth us,<lb/>
                                To finde our Patience wrong'd: So, let us make<lb/>
                                An Emblem of our selves, thereby to take<lb/>
                                More heed, how God is moved towards them,<lb/>
                                That, his long suffring, and his Love contemne.<lb/>
                                For, as wee some what have of every Creature,<lb/>
                                So, wee in us, have somewhat of his Nature :<lb/>
                                Or, if it bee not sayd the same to bee,<lb/>
                                His Pictures, and his Images are wee.<lb/>
                                Let, therefore, his long-suffering, well be weigh'd,<lb/>
                                And, keepe us, to provoke him, still afraid.<lb/>
