| ANNOT |
C-P. Warncke, Gabriel Rollenhagen Sinn-Bilder. Ein Tugendspiegel (Harenberg 1983) interprets the background scene as Aeneas carrying Anchises from burning Troy. However, the lame and the blind have to work in unison (concord) to cross a bridge, which fits the inscription. Also, the man that sits on the other man's back, is carrying a pair of crutches. Compare: Alciatus, "Mutuum Auxilium". |
